J.Period & Black Thought will present an electrifying “Illadelph Edition” of the J.Period Live Mixtape, featuring new and classic Roots hits plus LIVE J.Period Remixes—an extended and enhanced version of the duo’s 2009 Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival performance.

The Manifesto Festival arrives only two months after another history-making J.Period Live Mixtape at the 2010 Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival, featuring hip hop legends Group Home, Dres (Black Sheep), Nice’n’Smooth, a DJ Premier-led Guru Tribute, and an epic finale featuring a reunited Pete Rock & CL Smooth.

“As hip hop evolves, a lot of the passion and enthusiasm for the artform has made its way overseas,” says J.Period. “I am really excited to be an ambassador for this level of hip hop culture at this year’s Manifesto. Sharing the stage with an MC the caliber of Black Thought gives me a tremendous opportunity to show Canadian fans what real hip hop is all about.”

For 5 years, J.Period has taken his award-winning Live Mixtape formula to the stage at festivals including Microsoft Zune “Live at the BBQ” and 4 consecutive Brooklyn Hip Hop Festivals. Each year, J.Period reaches further into his bag of tricks, with past performances from an all-star roster of hip hop legends, including: EPMD, Black Moon, Special Ed, Smif’N’Wesson, Masta Ace, Chubb Rock, Keith Murray and more.

“The J.Period Live Mixtape has been one of the highlights of The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival for years,” say Festival founder, Wes Jackson. “Taking the concept international will give folks far from Brooklyn a taste of what we have been rocking to for a while now. J.Period and his team… continue to save [hip hop] music one gig and one mixtape at a time!”

For The Manifesto, 2010 marks the 4th consecutive year that their weeklong exhibition of hip hop culture takes over the city of Toronto. Bringing together the culture’s illest MCs, dancers and artists, the Festival unites top Canadian and international artists to inspire the community through creativity and culture. Energizing, supporting and celebrating Toronto’s vibrant and diverse music and arts community, Manifesto has become a catalyst for creative evolution and social change. Additional 2010 performers include: Jay Electronica (also co-headlining on Sept. 26), Bilal, Jean Grae & Citizen Kane, Crazy Legs (Rock Steady Crew), and local talent including Rich Kidd & Saukrates.

For J.Period, Manifesto caps a busy month: his Spike Lee collaboration paying tribute to Michael Jackson has earned over 100,000 downloads in only 2 weeks online (http://www.jperiod.com/mj). And earlier this week, J.Period released an exclusive new remix for John Legend & The Roots, re-uniting Pete Rock & CL Smooth on wax for the first time in 7 years, andearning rave reviews in the process (http://www.jperiod.com/wakeup). Look out for more from J.Period later this month, as he releases another collaborative mixtape—this time with the world-famous DJ Jazzy Jeff & ghostwriter extraordinaire, Skillz.
