J.PERIOD AUSTRALIA TOUR 2009 :: VIDEO BLOG

Day One: April 24
Live Mix on Triple J Radio + Interview on FBI Radio + J.Period @ Fanny's (Newcastle)
J.Period's first day in Australia! Day One included a visit to ABC Broadcasting and an interview and live DJ mix on Triple J Radio, the country's top radio station... an on-air interview with Sydney's independent station, FBI Radio... and J.Period's first gig in Newcastle, Australia at Fanny's! Check out video footage below... to be continued...

Day Two: April 25
"Tribute to the 90's" @ Oxford Art Factory (Sydney)

After a loooong night's sleep and a primer in iMovie (peep Day one recap!), J.Period took the stage for the main event in Sydney, FBI Radio & Grindin's "Tribute to the 90's" event at Sydney's Oxford Art Factory! The night included opening DJ Ology warming up the deck, Killa Queenz MC Queen G holding down the mic, and Aussie cover performances of some 90s classics (you haven't heard anything until you hear KRS-One "Outta Here" in an Australian accent LOL). After the warm up, J.Period took over the decks and ignited the crowd into a frenzy with 2 hours worth of 90's hip hop classics that kept the crowd rockin until 4am, testing the Aussie crowd's hip hop IQ with underground gems and classic hits. Video recap coming soon... Up next: Bondi Beach.

Day Three: April 26
"SOULed Out Sundays" @ Sahnia (Bondi Beach)

Sunday at Bondi Beach turned out to be the hottest night so far, with J.Period in rare form, rocking Sahnia's "SOULed Out Sundays" until closing. Added to the bill as a last-minute special guest, word of J.Period's appearance spread throughout the day, leaving a jam-packed house waiting for J.'s late-night arrival to the venue. Once he was in the house, it was all business yet again, with J.Period spinning a mix of new and classic hip hop, R&B and reggae and making his mark on Bondi Beach!

Day Four: April 27
Visit to Feit Sneakers + Sydney City Tour

And then there was... rest. Day Four was J.Period's first full day off, and despite battling the effects of jet-lag (and a cold), the crew found its way into downtown Sydney to check out a few local hip hop shops and sneakers spots, including cutting-edge, Sydney-based brand Feit, who were kind enough to bless J.Period with a fresh new pair of kicks! After that, the day concluded with an up-close visit to the famous Sydney Opera House for a drink before J. passed out cold for his first real night of sleep since arriving on Friday. Up next... J.Period's Live Mix on Alchemy SBS Radio tomorrow night at 11pm.

Day Five: April 28
Sydney Graffiti Tour + Live Mix on SBS Alchemy Radio

With only one scheduled radio gig for April 28, J.Period used his second day off to see more of the sights in Sydney, including some of its best graf spots. J.Period's local tour guides, C.J. and DJ Ology, lead a visit to Newtown (Sydney's "Haight St" - although it reminded us more of Melrose in L.A.) and a city-wide tour graffiti murals, including the unbelievable, government-commissioned May Street murals, and the longest graf wall in Sydney! Big shout out to C.J.'s son, Jai, for introducing us to the next generation of hip hop headz! When night fell, it was time for a visit to Alchemy SBS Radio for a 1 hour live interview and on-air mix, hosted by KillaQueenz' Kween G .

Day Six: April 29
Live Mix on FBI Radio + Interview on K-Sera Radio

Newly dubbed "J. Scorcese" by Sam Dutch for his gratuitous video blogging, J.Period spent his sixth day Down Under going through video footage from Days 4 and 5 for the daily blog, before heading back into Sydney for his final two radio appearances: a return to FBI Radio for an interview and live mix, and a phoner with K Sera Radio, one of Australia's biggest national hip hop shows. At FBI, J.Period dropped some more of his exclusive remixes along with some hip hop rarities, with host Shantan Wanton Ichiban (yeah, that's his name) inquiring about J.Period's famed mixtapes and the stories behind making em. Later, on a phoner with K Sera Radio, J.Period answered questions about his upcoming shows with De La Soul in Melbourne, his brief tour of duty as Lauryn Hill's DJ, and the highlights of his experiences working with some of hip hop and R&B's all-time greats. Next up, it's off to Melbourne on Day 7!

Day Seven: April 30
Arriving in Melbourne + De La Soul Show #1

After arriving in Melbourne, it was off to sound check at the The Esplanade Hotel (venue for the De La Soul shows), and our first run-in with Posdnuous and De La's surprise guest, Dres (Black Sheep) at the venue! After that, a brief visit to Melbourne's beautiful harbour for the sunset, before it was time to get ready for the gig. A sold-out crowd of 1000 people filled the room for J.Period's warm-up set, which sent the crowd into a frenzy before the main event, De La Soul and their band, The Rhythm Roots All-Stars, took the stage for an unbelievable performance. Running through classics from "Buddy" to "Stakes is High," De La and the band brought the house down, with Dres stepping onstage for a rendition of "Flavor of the Month" and "The Choice is Yours" that had the whole crowd leaping for the ceiling...!

Day Eight: May 1
Visit to Nike Factory + Sneakerfreaker Event + De La Soul Show #2

Day Eight and we definitely saved the best for last... including a visit to Australia Nike Headquarters and a shopping spree (for FREE!)... a DJ set at Sneakerfreaker's Melbourne Launch Party, and the 2nd night of De La Soul + Dres (Black Sheep) + The Rhythm Roots All-Stars at the The Esplanade Hotel (Melbourne). J.Period was also paid a visit by Acclaim Magazine for a photo shoot for their upcoming issue! All in all, an incredible end to an incredible tour experience. Scroll up to see the video footage!
